Creating songs...
Creating a song can be thought of as similar to painting a picture. There needs to be some kind of inspiration, structure and harmony in order to produce a finished piece. It also involves a process of layering, mixing and refinement, in order to create a certain feeling the creator is looking for. This feeling will flow through the artwork, whether it be a painting or a song, and be felt by those who resonate with that feeling.

Yvonne's songwriting comes from a desire to connect with others in a clear and empathic way, by telling lyrical stories from her own life or from observations of life around her.

Her greatest hope is that these lyrical stories can help in some way to inspire, comfort and maybe even offer healing, to whoever feels drawn to listen to them.

The Songs
Yvonne has several songs in the pipeline awaiting that magical touch of completion, however, one song is complete and can be shared here...

The Book
This song was written many years ago but has only recently been fully realised through the power of modern recording methods. Yvonne created each backing track with the use of virtual instruments, and then mixed and mastered them to create the sound and feel she was looking for. You can listen to The Book below.

Other Songs
Are on their way! They have been recorded by talented New Zealand musicians in a recording studio and Yvonne is in the process of arranging, mixing and mastering these so they can be released.

The Book
The Book is a contemporary song with the feel of a time long ago.
It has a bass and beat-driven groove with the addition of medieval harpsichord and gemshorn instruments.
It tells a haunting yet hopeful story of unrequited love.

The opening lines were very sweet
As passion matched the summer’s heat
The trees were whispering all around
As we lay restless on the ground
Suddenly the sky turned grey
You looked at me then turned away
The bitter end seemed too abrupt
So for many months the book lay shut
(chorus)
I think it’s time To turn the pages over
I think it’s time To try another line
I think it’s time To turn the pages over, oh
I think it’s time
To make the story mine
Nervously dangling from a string
My mind retracing everything
Trying to read between the lines
The ones I’d read too many times
‘Round and ‘round it made me dizzy
With endless questions to keep me busy
A sickening feeling in my gut
So for many months the book lay shut
CHORUS
I’m turning to the final chapter
To read the happily ever after
I’m turning to the final chapter
To read the happily ever after
I can’t rewrite what’s been and gone
The time I’ve lost has been too long
Too many months wedged in a rut
When the story ends the book stays shut.
CHORUS
